LSE - CR Parekh Fellowship 2009/10
In the Autumn of 2008, the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) will invite applications for the `C.R. Parekh Fellowship’. Applicants should be established scholars in the social sciences with experience of research on India. Applicants should hold a PhD or comparable qualifications and experience - the fellowship is not intended for students registered for a degree or diploma, nor is it intended for senior academics.
The CDFD (Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics) Hyderabad, is a premier institute in the country, which provides services in DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics and conducts basic research in different areas of modern molecular and cellular biology. The main themes of research at CDFD are :

Sophia Scholarship is ready to receive applications for the academic year 2008-2009 from academically outstanding and financially deserving students. Scholarships will be awarded to students for pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Medicine after completion of higher secondary education.

As part of Google’s ongoing commitment to furthering Anita’s vision, we are pleased to announce The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship: Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Through the scholarship, we aim to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, and become active role models and leaders.
Multiple scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic performance, leadership experience and demonstrated passion for computer science. A group of female Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool. The scholarship recipients, selected from the finalists, will each receive a €5,000 (or equivalent) scholarship for the 2009/2010 academic year.
In June 2009, all finalists will be invited to visit Google’s Engineering Centre in Zurich for a networking retreat. It will include workshops with a series of speakers, panels, breakout sessions and social activities, and will provide an opportunity for all finalists to meet and share their experiences.

Candidates must:
Be a female student entering her final year of a Bachelor’s degree, or enrolled in an a Master’s or PhD programme (or equivalent), in 2009/2010.
Be enrolled at a University in Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. Citizens, permanent residents, and international students are eligible to apply.
Be studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, or a closely related technical field.
Maintain an excellent academic record (e.g. a First Class Honours degree).

The country’s premier power producer takes on the responsibility for fruitful impact in the cause of SC/ST/Physically Challenged persons. As a responsible and socially conscious enterprise, NTPC is offering 35 scholarships to students belonging to Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe/Physically Challenged categories pursuing full time degree course in Engineering.
ELIGIBILITY:
Students belonging to SC/ST/Physically Challenged categories (Visually Handicapped/ Hearing Handicapped/ Orthopaedically Handicapped) and pursuing full time degree course in Engineering in the disciplines of Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics / Telecommunication from a college/ university/ institute recognized by the Govt, of India and should be in the Second Year in the session 2007-2008. Those who have successfully completed the 1st year degree course in 2007 in the first attempt only need apply. They should not be receiving any financial aid or assistance from any source.
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT:
The scholarship is admissible from the second year till the final year subject to the condition that the student meets the minimum qualifying criterion for success in each year. The amount of scholarship is Rs.1500/- P.M. Total 35 scholarships will be granted (20 SC, 10 ST and 05 PC).

NMML Fellowships
The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) offers fellowships to scholars to pursue research in (i) modern Indian history and contemporary studies (ii) perspectives in Indian development (social, economic and cultural) (iii) India and changing trends in world economy and polity.
Special preference will be given to scholars working on a) various aspects of the history of India’s national liberation struggle and b) Jawaharlal Nehru, values represented by him and the critical issues of the Nehruvian era. This would include a wide range of areas such as foreign policy and national security, the study of democracy, movements for the deepening of democracy, planning, equity, communalism, gender, education and health and particularly its access to the poor.
The fellowships are offered at three levels:
Junior Fellow, Fellow and Senior Fellow. The emoluments, including allowances, will correspond to that of Assistant professor, Associate Professor and Professor of Central Universities, respectively (plus 2 increments). CPF/ GPF facilities will be extended only to scholars having permanent jobs who take up the fellowship after taking leave without pay from their parent departments.
Fellowships offered are for a duration of two years only. Fellows will be based in Delhi except for a maximum of five fellows who may be permitted by the Selection Committee to be based outside Delhi.
Senior Fellow: Scholars of eminence who have made significant contribution to the knowledge in their respective fields and preferably have experience of conducting and guiding research.
Fellow: Good Academic record, a Ph. D or equivalent published work and at least five years teaching/ post doctoral research experience.
Junior Fellow: These positions are open to candidates with a good academic record and/or scholarly publication, and preferably Ph. D degree.

The Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi notifies the following scholarship schemes on the basis of examinations conducted by the Board in the year 2008.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF NATIONAL TALENT SEARCH EXAMINATION(NTSE-2009)
ARE YOU IN CLASS VIII? YOU MAY GET SCHOLARSHIP UPTO YOUR P.G/Ph.D.
National Talent Search Scheme is a flagship activity of the NCERT started in the year 1963. The purpose of the scheme is to identify talented students and nurture their talent. Talent refers to the potentiality that manifests itself in a high level of performance in one or more specialized areas. The scheme, therefore, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. It honors and helps talented students by providing financial assistances in the form of a monthly scholarship. For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D level. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law; this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation. For the selection year 2009, The NCERT will conduct the National Talent Search Examination for students studying in class VIII only.
1. Scholarships: On the basis of the examination conducted, 1000 scholarships will be awarded for each group of students appearing for Class VIII examinations.
2. Reservation: 15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for the Physically Challenged Group of Students each in respect of the class VIII.
3. Scholarship: Awardees of NTS Examination will receive a sum of Rs.500/-per month as per NTS rules.
4. Selection: There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For stage-1, selection will be done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students who qualify Stage 1 will be eligible to appear for Stage 11 examination conducted by NCERT.
5. Important Dates: Dates for Submission of Application Form and conduct of examinations are given below in the table.

6. Eligibility: Students of Class VIII studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear Stage I examination conducted by the States/UTs in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction.
7. Examination: The pattern of written examination for Class VIII will be as follows.
Stage 1 examination at the State/UT level will comprise two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test(MAT) and (b) Scholastic Ability Test(SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics.
Stage 2 examination at the National level will comprise (a) Mental Ability Test(MAT), (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences and mathematics, (c) Interview. Only those candidates who qualify the written examination at the National Level will be invited for the interview.
8. State Quotas: Each State/Union Tertiary has been allotted a quota to recommend a specific number of candidates for the Stage II examination, the details of which will be made available on the NCERT website. However, there will be no State/Union Territory Quotas for the final award of scholarship after the Stage II examination. Reservation for SC, ST and Physically Challenged will be as notified in Para 2 above.
9. Application Forms: Application forms may be downloaded from the NCERT website www.ncert.nic.in. All correspondences related to application forms should be addressed to the state Liaison Officers (Los) whose addresses are given at the end/Website : www.ncert.nic.in
10. The completed application form duly signed by the principal of the school should be submitted to the LO before the last date i.e. 31 August 2008.
11. Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required (refer to NCERT website) which will be paid for the Stage-1 examination. However, NCERT does not charge any fee for the Stage-II examination.
12. Announcement of Results: Results of the Stage I examination will be announced by NCERT.
13. Indian Students Studying Abroad can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examinations under conditions prescribed in the NTS Brochure for Class VIII which is available on the NCERT website. Candidates may fill up relevant items of the application form available on the NCERT website and send in to the undersigned along with a photocopy of the mark sheet of previous examination latest by 31 March 2009.
